In today's society, women are intrigued with fashion and the industry continues to grow. We are noticeable and eye-catching. Beamingly beautiful but sometimes as a Christian, our hearts break. What do your clothes say about you?
I recently found this quote from Ralph Lauren, "fashion is something that comes from within you." Wow! that struck me as I read it. My clothes really tell the world about what is deep down inside my heart? What do I want to reveal to the world if my clothes genuinely make that statement?
In 1 Timothy 2:9 it says: “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.."
You may wonder what "modest" even means.
When I look up the word "modest" online I find this: "(of a woman) dressing or behaving so as to avoid impropriety or indecency, especially to avoid attracting sexual attention.
• (of clothing) not revealing or emphasizing the figure." (modest dress means that hemlines must be below the knee)."
The word of the Lord also says: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1
If I really tell the world about what is inside of my heart by the skirt that I wear and the top that I match it with, I do not want to dishonor the Lord and His holy word by appearing ungodly. To me, not only do your clothes tell what is inside of your heart but your clothes can reveal your character, the way that you feel about yourself and even as deep as how you want to be encountered.
My prayer is that every lady of all ages would remember that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people(1 Peter 2:9) and the Lord wants us to honor Him and His word in these last days to witness and win souls. Although people may wonder about why we look so different, some may hate us for His names sake(Matt 10:22) or some may admire with gratitude, we have the Bread of Life to back up our beauty. We are beautiful, we are different and unique and importantly we are Holy in the eyes of the our Holy God.
